Located in Guangzhou’s Baiyun District, Baiyun Railway Station is one of Asia’s largest railway hubs and a major transportation project in southern China. The station brings together high-speed rail, conventional rail, and intercity services, serving as a critical transportation and transfer hub for millions of passengers.
The station covers approximately 2.63 million square meters, with a total construction area of 453,000 square meters. Featuring 11 platforms and 24 railway lines, Baiyun Railway Station officially opened to the public on December 26, 2023.
Meeting the Demand for Smarter Display Solutions
As construction of the new railway hub progressed, the Baiyun District Government launched a public bidding process in early 2023 to source professional display equipment for the station.
The project called for a range of display technologies, including:
- Digital signage solutions
- Commercial display systems
- Interactive flat panel displays
These solutions were expected to support a variety of applications across the station, from passenger-facing services to daily railway operations. Key requirements included:
- Self-service passenger information inquiries
- Real-time travel guidance
- Train schedule and service information
- Railway operation and monitoring applications
With thousands of passengers moving through the station every day, the display systems needed to provide clear, reliable information while integrating seamlessly with the station’s broader digital infrastructure.
A Customized Display Solution from JAV Smart Board
With nearly two decades of experience in the interactive display industry, JAV Smart Board was selected as the display solution provider following the competitive bidding process.
One of the advantages was our proximity to the project. JAV’s manufacturing facility is located approximately 20 kilometers from Baiyun Railway Station, allowing our team to respond efficiently to the project’s installation, customization, and technical requirements.
For the project, JAV provided more than 600 display units, including a number of customized solutions developed specifically for the station.
Rather than relying solely on standard commercial products, the project required display hardware and installation configurations that could adapt to the station’s infrastructure and operational environment. JAV worked closely with the project team to customize product configurations and installation designs, helping ensure reliable operation and smooth integration with existing systems.
Efficient Installation and System Integration
Following the completion of the station’s construction in November 2023, the project entered the installation and commissioning phase.
To support the large-scale deployment, JAV assembled a dedicated project team consisting of 6 engineers from our engineering department and 20 experienced production and installation workers.
Over approximately one month, the team completed the installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of the display equipment throughout the station.
System integration was another important part of the project. The display products needed to work with Baiyun Railway Station’s existing Information Publishing System, Data Processing System, and Monitoring System.
JAV’s technical team worked through the integration process to ensure that the interactive displays and digital signage units could communicate effectively with the station’s systems and deliver accurate, real-time information.
This integration enabled the display infrastructure to support both passenger services and operational workflows within the railway station.
Supporting Millions of Passengers Every Year
The scale of Baiyun Railway Station highlights the importance of reliable information display technology. During its first year of operation, the station served approximately 13 million passengers, with an average of around 35,000 travelers per day.
Within this high-traffic environment, JAV’s display solutions help passengers access essential information more conveniently. Travelers can use the installed display systems to check train schedules, find travel information, and navigate the station more efficiently.
For railway operators and station teams, the integrated display infrastructure also provides a practical platform for distributing information and supporting day-to-day operations.
By combining interactive displays, digital signage, customized hardware configurations, and system integration, the project demonstrates how professional display technology can support both passenger experience and transportation operations on a large scale.
